Vanamohotsava

The month of august was an interesting one. Jala Poshan, the citizen group I am a part of, was hosting a ten day long  Vanamohotsava - a tree planting drive ; around  Jakkur lake. The whole point of the Vanamohotsava was to increase the popularity of the lake and help fund Jala Poshan in its ventures to help improve the lake.  To raise fund tickets were sold with which people could plant a  tree around the lake . There were many varieties of trees planted like Gulmohar , Jackfruit ,Jamun  and Mexican silk cotton to name a few. Most of these trees are fruiting ones to help attract more butterflies and birds to the lake. 

To attract people there were many activities held at the lake such as bird walks, nature walks, nature painting etc . The walks were conducted by Dr. Subbu Subramanya and Dr. Chandrashekar  from GKVK. Special days were held for firms such as Hebron Properties  and Menzies Aviation Bobba cargo .They  helped sponsor the event and paid for essential equipment  for the lakes maintenance .
